All the ways a child plays—on a playground, in a playroom, and the special relationship that grows between a child and stuffed bear as they play together—is a central learning theme. Focused listening activities feature schoolyard sounds and give way to playing games children can take outside, such as “Follow the Leader.” Plus, the train game with “Alle Gallo” develops “stop and go” abilities when children start slow and speed up with this locomotive game. Focused listening activities feature the sounds heard in a playroom with a jack-in-the-box, sand blocks. With Irish music as your guide, you and your students will go over and Under the Rainbow as you explore all the ups and down-sounds that music can make. A mischievous leprechaun will keep the children on the whereabouts of this gold, as you introduce them to the musical notes and concepts. Sounds that go high and low, and slide up and down the musical scale, just like a ride down a rainbow. The children will know exactly what you mean when you use the featured instruments in the recordings for this class, such as a slide whistles and trombones. ABC Music & Me: Around the Farm & Outside My Window Fall '08
  Materials Include: 1 or 2 Family Guide, 1 or 2 Home CD, and Rhythm Sticks* This class is offered as a 4 or 8 week class. For the 4 week class you only need the one set of materials taught.

Description: In Around the Farm, march tiptoe, stomp, glide and gallop like farm animals in this class about movement – the key to all learning! Experiment with rhythms, pitches, and sounds while children play instruments, move to a steady beat, use American Sign Language and sing songs. Animal rhymes and stories will keep your child engaged and learning all about farm animals; while, ASL has been proven to help preschoolers have better spelling, reading, and writing skills. Then, Outside My Window, links your child’s active imagination to songs and activities about the weather. Each child will listen various sounds, such as footsteps in snow, and use rhythmic poems and rhymes to act out and describe things to do in different kinds of weather: get dressed in imaginary clothes, skate on imaginary ice, and splash in imaginary puddles. Description: In Down on the Ground, come take a Listening Walk, help your child learn to love to observe and learn from the world around her. In Splash! come think and talk in 3s. Come sing songs that help your child seek and find that pattern, such as singing Row, Row, Row Your Boat. Please bring $35 for materials.
